Seavey Transported To Local Hospital For Evaluation

PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. – Logan Seavey, the 2018 USAC National Midget Series champion, was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis Thursday night after enduring a violent flip during his heat race at Lincoln Park Speedway.

Seavey was working through the second heat of the night, running fifth on lap six, when his No. 19az Reinbold/Underwood Motorsports midget biked in turn four before getting upside down.

The car landed hard in the dirt before righting itself on all four wheels, with medical and safety workers at the scene in moments to tend to the Sutter, Calif., young gun.

After several minutes of working with Seavey, the track crew helped the 23-year-old from his battered machine, with Seavey gingerly climbing onto a waiting quad before riding back to the pit area.

Several members of the Reinbold/Underwood Motorsports crew confirmed to SPEED SPORT after heats that Seavey would take the trip to a local hospital, ending his night at the five-sixteenths-mile dirt oval.

Seavey’s team owner, Andy Reinbold, later told SPEED SPORT via text message that Seavey was “OK” at the hospital, but “probably” done for the week in terms of pursuing his second straight Indiana Midget Week title.

Seavey contacted SPEED SPORT in the early hours of Friday morning and was in good spirits, despite his hard shunt. He did not indicate whether he would compete for the rest of the week.

Seavey was seventh in Indiana Midget Week points and eighth in the overall USAC National Midget Series standings entering Thursday’s Lincoln Park show, though he’s not expected to chase the series title this year. His focus with Reinbold/Underwood is on AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series points.

Indiana Midget Week continues Friday night with a second complete show at Lincoln Park Speedway.
