ORRVILLE, Ohio – At the unofficial “halfway break” of Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek, Aaron Reutzel heads the week-long point standings in search of his first Speedweek title.
Through four races, Reutzel has accrued 574 of a possible 600 points, with Monday’s eighth-place finish at Wayne County Speedway marking his worst result of the week to date.
However, in spite of that, Reutzel actually extended his Speedweek lead from two points to 14, after Buddy Kofoid flipped in his heat race and struggled during the feature to a disappointing finish.
Kofoid’s misfortune allowed Cale Conley, who ran second Monday night to winner Cap Henry, to jump up to second in the standings with 560 points.
Conley has yet to win during Ohio Sprint Speedweek, but has three top-five finishes in the four races held so far and has yet to finish outside of the top 10.
Kofoid slipped to third in Speedweek points with 544, but will drop outside the top 10 when the mini-series resumes Wednesday due to POWRi midget commitments that prevent him from running the balance of the week in the Ed Neumeister Racing No. 11n.
Paul McMahan sits fourth in points with 542, followed by two-time winner Henry at 538.
Jac Haudenschild (534), Lee Jacobs (504), Cory Eliason (498), Josh Baughman (484) and Greg Wilson (482) fill out the top 10 in Speedweek points with four of nine races complete.
Among the top five in the Ohio Sprint Speedweek standings, only McMahan has won a Speedweek championship, doing so in 2018. The other four are seeking their first crowns.
Following a Tuesday-night break in the action, Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek resumes Wednesday at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex in Peebles, Ohio.
