Once more, place your faith in Ben Stokes and Jason Holder

England v West Indies, 2nd Test, Old Trafford

Our XI: Rory Burns, Zak Crawley, Joe Root, Roston Chase, Ben Stokes, Shane Dowrich (wk), Jason Holder, Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach, Stuart Broad, James Anderson

NOTE: We might not always be able to tip you off about a late injury (or other relevant) updates.

Captain: Ben Stokes

Stokes was the standout player in the first Test for England, picking up six wickets and scoring 89 runs. He bats a long time and bowls many overs and takes important wickets, and is likeliest to fetch you maximum points.

Vice-captain: Jason Holder

Similar to Stokes - he can score runs and pick up big wickets, and has to be one of the two main men in your side. Holder took six wickets in the first innings of the first Test and was very tough to score off. No big runs yet, but they should come sooner or later.

Hot picks

Joe Root: Root is coming back after missing the first Test and will be determined to help England level the series. He is likely to replace Joe Denly. In the last year, Root has scored 914 runs at an average of 41.54, with one century and seven fifties. Root's record at Old Trafford is also very impressive: an average of 85 from nine innings courtesy 595 runs with four fifties and one century.

Stuart Broad: Broad is also expected to come back after being dropped for the first Test. He has been England's best bowler in the last one year by far, with 48 wickets at 23.52, striking every 49 balls. Broad's ability to bowl more full-length deliveries on the stumps consistently could be vital for England.

Kemar Roach: Roach didn't get among the wickets in the first Test, but bowled economically with the new ball. He is seven strikes away from taking 200 Test wickets and would be desperate to deliver in Manchester.

Value picks

Zak Crawley: If there was a battle for one batting spot between Crawley and Denly in Root's absence, Crawley has won it with a strokeful 76 in the first Test. He is likely to move to No. 3 in the second Test. If the conditions are helpful, Crawley could well get you some valuable points.

Shannon Gabriel: Since 2000, no West Indies bowler has returned better figures in England than Gabriel's 9 for 137 in the first Test. He has the gift of picking up wickets consistently - with a minimum of 50 wickets, Holder and Gabriel have the top two strike rates for any pace bowler since January 2018.

Point to note

The average first-innings score in the last five Tests at Old Trafford is 425, while the average second-innings score is 292. The venue is favourable for pace bowling, with the fast men averaging 28.44 and striking at 53.1. The spinners have struggled here, averaging 43.44 and striking once every 77 balls.
