KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Kalamazoo Speedway is suspending its season through Aug. 8, track officials announced Wednesday morning.
The stretch includes race dates planned on July 17, July 24, July 29, July 31 and Aug. 7–8, coming just days before the track was scheduled to try for the third time this season to run its Intimidator 100 late model event.
Track officials will continue to evaluate released Executive Orders and the Kalamazoo County Health Department’s plan daily and hope to have news to release at the end of July.
A “mini season” in August, September and the first part of October is possible, if conditions allow, to try and salvage the 72nd consecutive year of operation at Kalamazoo Speedway.
“When the orders were released that allowed 500 people in the grandstands, Kalamazoo Speedway was going to attempt to make this happen,” said track manager Gary Howe in a statement. “But when that order was rescinded to 100 people in the grandstands, that took the break-even point well below the bottom line.”
