ENSENADA, Mexico – Daniel Chamlee, Santiago Creel, Francisco Septien, Mike Lawrence, Oscar Alvarez, Gerardp Ibarra and Mike Hales are among the early entries for next month’s 52nd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500 presented by 4 Wheel Parts.
Early entries have come from seven U.S. states, along with host country Mexico.
The first of two races on the pandemic-abbreviated 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship schedule will be held Sept. 22-27 in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.
San Felipe is the serene fishing village on the Sea of Cortez, 125 miles south of the U.S. border at Calexico, Calif. All 2020 SCORE races will be held on Mexico’s magnificent Baja California peninsula for the fifth consecutive year.
Competition will include classes for cars, trucks UTVs, motorcycles and quads.
The race will be televised on a delayed basis as a one-hour special on the ABC Network World of X Games programming and syndicated internationally to as many as 25 countries.
Chamlee, 58, has captured 15 career SCORE season class point championships in Class 7 (2004, 2006-19). He is tied for second in SCORE history for all-time season class titles.
Chamlee has also earned five class wins (2006-10) in the SCORE Baja 500 in his illustrious career in his No. 700 Factory Racing Ford Ranger. He has six career Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards given to racers who complete every required race mile for the season.
Mexican motorcycle rally racer Santiago Creel, 34, won two 2019 motorcycle class point titles and became the first racer to earn three Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Awards in the same season.
For this year’s SCORE Baja 500, Creel has entered both the Trophy Truck Spec and the Pro Moto Unlimited classes.
Mexico’s Francisco Septien, 45, is one of the most prominent age-group motorcycle riders in SCORE history. He has seven career SCORE season class point titles including five career race wins in the SCORE San Felipe 250.
He will be the rider of record this year in San Felipe in the Pro Moto 30 (riders over 30 years old) class and he has six class wins in the SCORE Baja 500.
Lawrence, 32, is a three-time SCORE Class 10 season point champion (2008, 2009, 2012), and is racing now in SCORE Trophy Truck, where he has entered his No. 85 Herbst/Smith-built Ford F-150.
The 2018 SCORE Class 1/2-1600 season point champion, Oscar Alvarez, has moved up to the SCORE Lite class and will be racing in his No. 1211 VW-powered OSO open-wheel desert race car.
Last year’s SCORE Class 5 season point titlist, Gerardo Ibarra, has entered in his No. 500 unlimited OSO-built VW Baja Bug.
In his first full SCORE racing season in 2019, Mike Hales won the Hammer Truck Unlimited season point championship in his No. 4421 Jeep Wrangler.
