BRASELTON, Ga. – PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports has announced its lineup for the TireRack.com Grand Prix at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, with Simon Trummer and Patrick Kelly being joined by rookie Scott Huffaker in the No. 52 Oreca 07-Gibson LMP2.
Huffaker has a long standing relationship with PR1/Mathiasen spanning several years. Beginning in 2016, the 20-year-old American driver raced in Pacific F2000 and climbed the open wheel ranks to win the Formula Pro USA F4 championship two years later.
Last year, he won the Team USA Scholorship while piloting the PR1/Mathiasen LMP3 to a second place finish in the IMSA Prototype Challenge series.
“I was introduced to PR1 through a mutual friend in 2016 and began racing with them in the Pacific F2000 series,” said Huffaker. “In early 2019, I began testing with PR1 to race in the IMSA Prototype Challenge series and competed in several races with them before being nominated and ultimately winning the Team USA Scholarship. It has been a great four years racing with PR1 and I’m looking forward to racing with them again this year.”
“This will be a very special event for the team. Road Atlanta is an iconic track and will definitely require everyone to be on top of the situation at all times,” added team principal Bobby Oergel. “Patrick Kelly and Simon Trummer have been doing a great job and we’re very excited to be able to have Scott Huffaker joining us for the endurance portion. Scott has been with the team for four years now and has shown his ability to rise to all the occasions we’ve been able to throw at him. It’s great to have these kind of long term relationships with both Scott Huffaker and Patrick Kelly being in the program for more than a few years, adding to that is Simon’s experience and abilities to help everyone around him.
“The crew has done a great job getting things ready and we really hope to have a smooth week in Georgia.”
