David D. Mateer Tribute On Tap For Must See Sprints

JENNERSTOWN, Pa. – The Must See Racing Sprint Car Series presented by Engine Pro will continue its season and renew one of its most tradition-rich events on Saturday at Jennerstown Speedway.

The American Racer David D. Mateer Tribute Race will serve as the fourth points-paying event of the Must See Racing season and it will be the third straight year the tour has visited the half-mile paved oval.

This year’s third running of the event again honors Mateer, the late director of racing for Specialty Tires of America, which manufactures the American Racer tires used on all Must See Racing entries.

Saturday’s 30-lap feature will award a $4,000 payout to the winner and $700 to start the main event. There will also be a $500 bonus available to the driver setting the fastest time during qualifying.

Five-time defending series champion Jimmy McCune won the inaugural Must See Racing visit to Jennerstown in 2018, while recent Pay Less Little 500 winner Bobby Santos III captured the checkered flag in the 2019 edition of the David D. Mateer Tribute Race.

Saturday’s race will be broadcast live to a worldwide audience via pay-per-view on SPEED SPORT Network affiliate Must See Racing TV. Pay-per-view tickets are $18 for the entire Saturday program.

It will be the second live broadcast that Must See Racing has put on this year, following the Indy Summer Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway back in June.

While Jimmy McCune leads the charge of the series regulars in pursuit of his sixth straight championship, it’s hisnephew Anthony who currently tops the Must See Racing point standings.

Anthony McCune carries a 10-point edge over his uncle into the Jennerstown event, thanks in part to his back-to-back victories to open the season in August at Wisconsin’s Golden Sands Speedway.

Charlie Schultz, Jason Blonde and Kevin Feeney round out the top five in the standings and Schultz and Feeney are both expected to be in action alongside the McCune pair, as well as Florida ace Troy DeCaire, veterans Brian Gerster and Tom Jewell and rookies Jacob Dolinar and Nolan Allison.

Allison, from Greensboro, N.C., is expected to make his series debut on Saturday after several years of competition and multiple wins in the Carolina-based USAC Speed2 Eastern Midget Ass’n.

After a slow start to the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Must See Racing President Jim Hanks is pleased that the series is beginning to hit its stride going into the fall, and also nodded to what the David D. Mateer Tribute Race means to the series and sanctioning body as a whole.

“We’re looking forward to returning to Jennerstown for a third season this weekend and equally eager to showcase Must See Racing’s entertainment brand to an even-bigger audience through Must See Racing TV and the SPEED SPORT Network via Saturday’s pay-per-view broadcast,” said Hanks. “Jennerstown is always one of the premier facilities that we visit each year with The World’s Fastest Short Track Cars and we look forward to seeing who will end the night celebrating in victory lane.

“A special thanks goes out to our partners at American Racer and Specialty Tires of America for what they do to help put this event on and we look forward to welcoming our passionate fans both at the race track and watching from home on Saturday.”

A full slate of late models, modifieds, chargers, street stocks and 4-cylinders will join the Must See Racing sprint cars on the event card.
