CRANDON, Wis. – The experience of night racing is coming to Crandon Int’l Raceway, just in time for the upcoming 27th Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run race weekend.
Originally set for Father’s Day weekend in June, the rescheduled Crandon Brush Run will now take place at Crandon on Sept. 25-27. The news comes on the heels of Crandon successfully hosting of its traditional Polaris World Championship Off-Road Race and Crandon World Cup event that took place over Labor Day weekend.
Track management has spent the better part of the summer of 2020 installing the new infield light towers, which will illuminate the track’s primary infield configuration in addition to Crandon’s famous Land Rush start. With the help of Pro 2 driver Brian Deegan, the first official laps took place on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
While the track has utilized security lighting that sits outside the track for Sportsman racing in the past, the upcoming Brush Run Saturday Night Lights competition will be the first for Pro-category competition in Crandon’s rich history.
The 2020 Crandon FCP Brush run schedule will feature two full days and 30 races of Champ Off-Road Pro and Sportsman competition. Friday, Sept. 25 will be free for fans of all ages to enjoy a full afternoon and evening of Pro and Sportsman practice, including the first night session for the Pro category racers. The Saturday night schedule includes Champ Off-Road points paying rounds for Pro Stock SXS, Pro-Lite, Pro Mod SxS, Pro 2 and Pro 4.
The weekend and 2020 Crandon season will culminate in the Forest County Potawatomi Chairman’s Cup, an all-out competition that pits unlimited Pro 2 versus Pro 4 trucks in a staggered time start. This year the Chairman’s Cup will also represent the final bragging rights any paychecks of the year for Midwest short-course off-road racing.
Crandon’s massive golden gates will swing open to welcome guests to Camp Crandon beginning on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Noon CT.
“At the start of this summer the board of directors at Crandon decided we needed to having something new and exciting for our racers and fans to enjoy for the rescheduled Brush Run event,” explained Crandon Int’l Raceway President Cliff Flannery. “Real night racing is as good as it gets, and now we have brought it to Crandon for 2020 and years to come. Fans can come for the weekend, the day or just for some good old fashion Saturday night entertainment.”
“The idea of finally adding night racing to Crandon International Raceway has been on the discussion table for years, and now was the time to pull the trigger and make it happen,” added Crandon Promotor Marty Fiolka. “Night racing in any form of motorsports is special, but the manicured grass, beautiful grandstands, tasty hot dogs and cold beer will make it seem more like a MLB baseball game. Everything is elevated at night, and once the fans see it for themselves they will be hooked.”
Crandon International Raceway has released a comprehensive 2020 COVID-19 operational plan to local law enforcement and health officials, as well as fans, racers and corporate partners, on its new website at www.crandonoffroad.com. Series officials in the Champ Off-Road will also be working closely with Crandon officials to ensure that all phases of the race weekend protocols are executed in an integrated manner.
