PHELAN, Calif. — Bob Hogle, a two-time California Racing Ass’n sprint car champion and a member of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, died Oct. 2 at the age of 87.

Hogle passed away peacefully Friday evening with his family by his side.

Born in Anaheim, Calif., on Nov. 24, 1932, Hogle began his racing journey in 1956 by racing jalopies. He eventually became a regular contender in the CRA ranks during the 1960s, which is where he enjoyed the bulk of his success.

He claimed his first CRA championship in 1963 aboard the Morales Brothers Tamale Wagon sprint car and added a second in 1963, again for the Morales Brothers. He earned 63 CRA sprint car victories, third all-time with the series.

Among his victories were multiple triumphs at the legendary Ascot Park, which included a USAC National Sprint Car Championship victory in 1968 and a pair of USAC National Midget triumphs in 1964 and ’65.

When not racing, Hogle worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2001.
