Padres manager Tingler tossed in NLDS Game 1

ARLINGTON, Texas -- San Diego Padres manager Jayce Tingler was ejected by plate umpire Lance Barrett in the sixth inning of a 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.

Tingler was tossed for arguing balls and strikes while making his sixth pitching change during Game 1 of the National League Division Series.

"I didn't know I got tossed," Tingler said. "When we went and talked, he said he warned me three times. I can't hear. You can't hear. I like Lance. Lance is good. We disagreed on the strike zone. Simple as that."

Tingler was tossed while replacing reliever Garrett Richards just after the Dodgers' first hit, a double by Mookie Betts.

The Padres sent a parade of relievers to the mound after Mike Clevinger left the game after throwing his second pitch of the second inning. It was Clevinger's first start since Sept. 23. The right-hander missed the first round of the playoffs because of an elbow impingement.

After Tingler was ejected, the Dodgers scored four runs in the sixth to break a 1-all tie. Garrett's replacement, left-hander Matt Strahm, allowed a tiebreaking sacrifice fly before four straight L.A. hitters reached base.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
