Felipe Mora and Jeremy Ebobisse scored two goals each, and Larrys Mabiala and captain Diego Valeri added goals for the Portland Timbers, who exploded for a 6-3 rout of the LA Galaxy on Wednesday night in Carson, Calif.

The Timbers took three two-goal leads only to have the Galaxy cut the first two deficits to one. Then Mora's second goal, in the 60th minute, followed by a header from Mabiala, a defender, made it 5-2 and put away the Galaxy for good.

The Galaxy made it 2-1 on Julian Araujo's 34th-minute goal and 3-2 on an Ethan Zubak goal at the 55-minute mark before Mora and Mabiala scored roughly three minutes apart in the second half.

Cristian Pavon scored in the 70th minute for the Galaxy, one of six second-half goals combined for the two teams. Then the Timbers narrowly avoided being offside on Ebobisse's second goal in the 80th minute.

Yimmi Chara assisted on a pair of Timbers goals, teaming up with his brother Diego to set up Mora's first goal less than 15 minutes into the match. Mabiala headed down a rebound into the net at close range for his first goal of the season.

Valeri's goal was a looping chip over Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham's head in the 47th minute. It was his seventh of the season.

The Timbers won their fourth straight game and remained in second place in the Western Conference. The Galaxy, who are tied for last place, saw their losing streak reach five.

The Timbers hadn't played since a 1-0 win over in Vancouver on Sept. 27. Their game that was scheduled for Oct. 3 against Colorado was postponed due to positive tests for coronavirus among Rapids players.

Portland has won two of the three meetings between the two teams this season. The Galaxy, winless in six straight including a draw, last won on Sept. 6, a 3-0 rout of Los Angeles FC.
