ROCKY MOUNT, Mo. – Jason Johnson Racing will enlist a familiar name to fill the seat of its No. 41 sprint car going into the new World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season next year.

Carson Macedo, who previously drove for JJR in the early months following the death of team principal Jason Johnson in 2018, will return to the team for the full 2021 World of Outlaws season.

Macedo’s highlight moment with JJR came during the 360 Knoxville Nationals two years ago, when he won his preliminary night before finishing second in the event finale. He also earned a podium finish during the prestigious Capitani Classic at Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway that season as well.

Team officials look forward to having Macedo back with the team, as they look forward to rekindling their prior success together.

“It is such a blessing to have the opportunity to welcome Carson back,” said team owner Bobbi Johnson. “He has always had a special place in all of our hearts, especially Jaxx’s and mine, since he courageously stepped in and drove our car after Jason’s accident.

“Carson’s values, focus, team-oriented approach and goals align with our team and we look to get off to a fast start in 2021 with him behind the wheel. We certainly welcome him, his family and his long-time supporters to our team.”

After a positive opening act with JJR two years ago, Macedo is eager to return to the team and aid in their continued growth, as both sides aim for the 2021 World of Outlaws sprint car championship.

“I cannot express enough how extremely humbled and grateful I am for the opportunity to be back in the JJR No. 41. Bobbi Johnson and everyone involved has continued to make this team a first class organization with so many amazing people and supporters.

“Back in 2018, I got the opportunity to work with Philip Dietz. Philip is an extremely dedicated and talented individual and I have no doubt that together we can accomplish some amazing things. I look forward to continuing Jason’s legacy and hope I can make his family and everyone involved very proud.”

From Lemoore, Calif., Macedo will be embarking on his third year with the Outlaws. He earned Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year honors during his first season in 2019 and ranks fifth in the 2020 standings.

The 24-year-old, fourth-generation driver has earned one win, 14 top-five and 41 top-10 finishes in the 52 World of Outlaws features completed so far this season.

For his career, Macedo has six wins, 35 top five and 100 top 10s in 134 Outlaw features.
