PORTIMAO, Portugal – Home hero Miguel Oliveira earned the pole for the inaugural Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix on Saturday at Algarve Int’l Circuit.
Oliveira toured the course in 1:38.892 edged out Petronas Yamaha SRT rider Franco Morbidelli by .044 seconds ahead of the final MotoGP race of the season.
Pramac Racing’s Jack Miller filled out the front row in third, followed by LCR Honda Castrol’s Cal Crutchlow and Morbidelli’s teammate, Fabio Quartararo.
Stefan Bradl, Johann Zarco, Maverick Viñales, Pol Espargaro and Alex Rins comprised the balance of the top 10 in qualifying.
Newly-crowned MotoGP champion Joan Mir failed to make it out of Q1 on Saturday and starts 20th for Team Suzuki Ecstar.
