Pill Draw Sets Snowball Derby Qualifying Order

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Fifty-five super late model drivers found out where they’ll line up in the Snowball Derby qualifying order during Wednesday evening’s PFC Brakes Qualifying Drawdown at Five Flags Speedway.

In an ironic twist, Michael House drew the No. 1 pill as the first driver to pull for his qualifying spot. He’ll be the first driver to time in Friday night, wheeling the No. 1.

“Maybe that’s telling me I’m pretty lucky or something,” House said on stage.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular Grant Enfinger, returning to the Snowball Derby this year for the first time since 2016, pulled pill No. 60 and will be last to qualify.

“It’ll probably be fine, no matter where you qualify,” Enfinger noted. “Things are so unpredictable here each year.”

Among those who landed in between were defending Snowball Derby winner Travis Braden and perennial contender Bubba Pollard. Both are driving for new teams this year.

Braden has moved to Jake Keaton Racing from Platinum Motorsports, while Pollard took the reins of the TK Racing No. 71 normally driven by Johnny VanDoorn in lieu of his own No. 26.

Braden pulled the No. 11 pill and will be 11th to qualify Friday night, while Pollard drew No. 53 and lines up 48th in the time trial list for what many drivers call “the most stressful night in short track racing.”

NASCAR Cup Series champions Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch will be 27th and 33rd, respectively, to take time. Both are seeking their third Snowball Derby victories Sunday.

The full Snowball Derby qualifying order can be viewed below.

Pro late model drivers also drew for their positions in the qualifying line Wednesday night, in advance of the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 on Saturday at the historic half mile.

Kyle Plott and Jake Finch will be the first two pro late model drivers to take time in Snowflake qualifications, with Elliott Massey bringing up the rear of the order.

In all, 45 drivers drew in for Snowflake 100 time trials.
