STATESVILLE, N.C. – Super Cup Stock Car Series officials have announced that Eric Dobson has accepted the position of race director with the series.
Dobson replaces Joe Schmaling, who has held the position since 2010. Schmaling had been serving as race director in addition to his day-to-day management of the Super Cup Stock Car Series. He voluntarily stepped aside from the race director role to focus on his role as director of competition.
“Everyone I’ve spoken to calls the Super Cup Stock Car Series a family,” said Dobson. “I look forward to becoming a part of that family.”
Dobson has worked within motorsports operations at a wide array of short tracks and road racing facilities in recent years. His expertise has predominantly been serving as a member of various safety teams, helping and directing functions such as EMS and fire extrication at venues including Watkins Glen Int’l, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Pittsburgh International Race Complex, Lucas Oil Raceway and even Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He now looks to challenge himself as part of the series, taking on an expanded and pivotal role.
“It’s an opportunity to learn more,” Dobson indicated. “I’ve mostly limited myself to the safety aspect, but always had interest and wanted to experience more of the entire industry.”
The goals Dobson looks to bring to the Super Cup Stock Car Series are simple and straightforward.
“I feel part of the Race Director’s responsibility is to keep continually moving forward, not allowing things to fall backwards,” Dobson added. “Hopefully I can do my part to help the series grow and make it better for everybody involved.”
