BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Jeremy Doss wrapped up the SPEARS Manufacturing Modified Series championship with a dominant performance Saturday at Kern County Raceway Park.

Doss started third in the 60-lap event, but quickly moved into the lead on the sixth lap after overtaking Jim Coffey for the top spot. The first caution flag of the race would follow one lap later when Mark Allen spun in turn two.

Holding the lead on the restart, Doss would control the pace for the remainder of the distance. He survived four additional restarts, including one with less than 10 laps left following a spin by Jeff Longman.

Doss would cross the finish line more than two seconds clear of runner-up Travis McCullough to collect the victory and the series championship. By claiming the series title, Doss became the first driver to earn championships in the SPEARS Manufacturing Modified Series and the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series.

“We had a really, really good car,” said Doss after his fifth victory of the season. “I’ve just got to thank Eddie and Cory Wilcox for giving me the opportunity to drive this car all year. It’s pretty special to be the only guy to win a modified championship and the SPEARS Southwest Tour championship.”

Eddie Secord, who entered the race 18 points shy of Doss in the standings, finished third after starting ninth. Travis Thirkettle and Jimmy Dickerson completed the top-five.

Saturday’s race was originally scheduled to take place at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway, but COVID-19 restrictions led to the event being moved to Kern County Raceway Park. The race was held in front of no fans and was broadcast live by SPEED SPORT TV affiliate SpearsRacing.TV.

The finish:

Jeremy Doss, Travis McCullough, Eddie Secord, Travis Thirkettle, Jimmy Dickerson, William Guevara, Douglas Carpenter, Ed Coffey, Jeff Longman, Sam Jacks, Jim Coffey, Ryley Massey, Jerry Toporek, Mark Allen.
