HOWARD BEACH, N.Y. – JCR Motorsports owners Jimmy Rennick Jr. and Angela Rennick have hired two-time Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Modified champion Shawn Solomito to join the team for the upcoming season at the New York quarter-mile paved oval.
“It all came together really quick,” Jimmy Rennick Jr. said. “A third party, whom I respect and do business with, and I were chatting at the Islip 300 about the JCR Motorsports No. 77 NASCAR Modified.
Shortly thereafter Solomito’s name came up and the wheels were put in motion.
“I actually asked Shawn at the 300 if he had his driving gear,” Rennick Jr. said.
The agreement was eventually ironed out during the holiday season.
Solomito, 31, comes to the JCR Motorsports team with an impressive racing portfolio that is highlighted by the 2012 and 2016 Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Modified championships along with the 2012 New York State NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series title.
With Solomito strapping into the JCR Motorsports No. 77 NASCAR Modified, it allows Rennick to solely focus on winning races and make a run for the Super Pro Truck championship in 2021.
“Right now, we are fine tuning how the logistics will work out this year,” Rennick said. “The past two seasons trying to get both the Super Pro Truck and NASCAR Modified out there on the same night was no easy task for the JCR Motorsports team.”
Chris Busick will serve as the JCR Motorsports car chief, overseeing both operations.
The No. 77 will be heading east shortly to the garage of Solomito’s father, Jerry Solomito, in Islip, N.Y., to be taken apart for evaluation. Jerry Solomito will perform a full refresh on the team’s engine in advance of the new season.
