West Indies fold early for 271 but with lead of 102

West Indies 271 (Cornwall 61, Lakmal 5-47) lead Sri Lanka 169 by 102 runs

It took just 15 minutes on the third morning for Sri Lanka to remove the final two West Indian wickets, ensuring that there would be no continuation of the resistance that had so frustrated them the previous day. It means West Indies finished their innings on 271 with a lead of 102.

Having rode his luck to an extent the previous evening, Rahkeem Cornwall looked keen to carry on his aggressive approach. However, he failed to take heed of the swing Vishwa Fernando was conjuring in the second over of the day, the seamer's inswinger from wide outside off careening through the gate after Cornwall had attempted a flamboyant drive. Cornwall top-scored for the hosts, making 61 off 85 deliveries, with John Campbell, Nkrumah Bonner, Kyle Mayers and Joshua Da Silva the other key contributors.

A couple of balls later, another inswinger would trap Shannon Gabriel lbw, who reviewed in vain, as the innings was brought to a close.

Up until then Fernando had gone wicketless, but ended with creditable figures of 2 for 52. Suranga Lakmal was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers with his 5 for 47.
