Vaas to continue as SL's fast bowling consultant; dispute 'amicably resolved' with SLC

Sri Lanka Cricket has said that the matters that led to Chaminda Vaas' resignation as the fast bowling consultant last month have been "amicably resolved" after a meeting between the two parties. An SLC release said Vaas withdrew his resignation and agreed to continue as the fast bowling consultant, which he had been appointed for just over a month ago, ahead of Sri Lanka's tour of the West Indies.

"Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform you that pursuant to a meeting that was held between Mr. Chaminda Vaas and the Management Team of Sri Lanka Cricket, the matters which led to his resignation were amicably resolved," an SLC media release said.

"Sri Lanka Cricket acknowledges the valuable services rendered by Mr. Vaas to SLC and the significant contribution he has made to the sport as an iconic player and wishes him well."

Within three days after his appointment, Vaas had resigned from the post with immediate effect, and was accused of holding "the game at ransom" by the board. The dispute had come only a day before the national team's departure for the West Indies and had come about as a result of a dispute over remuneration.

The SLC had then said in a release: "It is particularly disheartening to note that in an economic climate such as the one facing the entire globe right now, Mr. Vaas has made this sudden and irresponsible move on the eve of the team's departure, based on personal monetary gain.

"The Management of SLC, and indeed the entire nation, hold Mr. Vaas in high esteem as a cricketer who has excelled for his country. His years of yeoman service have been appreciated and rewarded over the years both in status and in kind."

Vaas, on the other had tweeted, saying: "I made a humble request to SLC and they turned it down. That's all I can say at the moment. Justice will prevail!"

Vaas was a replacement for David Saker, who had resigned citing personal reasons. After the dispute with SLC, Vaas went on to represent Sri Lanka Legends in the Road Safety Word Series in India, in which retired players competed from six teams in a T20 tournament that was won by India Legends.
