HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Rodney Walls was one of four race winners on the opening day of action at Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday afternoon.

Walls led every lap of the late model sportsman feature, which ran caution free. Frankie Gordon was second, with Scott Palmer completing the podium.

“We worked on our program all winter and think we are pretty good so far this year,” Walls said. “I chose a softer tire today and it really paid off. I hope we can continue this next week.”

Corey Almond picked up the victory in the opening race of the crate late model season at Hagerstown, taking the lead late during a restart and holding on to pick up the victory.

“If it weren’t for the late restart, I don’t think I would be standing here right now,” Almond said. “We were fortunate to get caught up to the leaders late and we took advantage on the restart and that’s how we got where we are. We are incredibly happy to start the season strong.”

Scott Sipes and Codey Breeden waged a war for supremacy in the hobby stock feature, with the duo making contact several times as they raced for the lead. Breeden ended up spinning out in turn four, leaving Sipes to take home the victory.

“It has been 15 years since I last won a race, so this is a special day,” Sipes said. “I just can’t believe it. It is great to be back in victory lane.”

The pure stock feature belonged to Jason Stoner, who took the lead on lap two and never looked back during the 15-lap event.

“We were hoping to pick up where we left off last season,” Stoner said. “I plan to run Hagerstown full-time this year and our team is really excited about it.”
