A season of upheaval has now produced the ultimate day of upheaval for the Rangers. On Wednesday, in a shocking development, president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton were both dismissed by CEO Jim Dolan. The team announced that associate GM Chris Drury would assume both managerial responsibilities and remain in those roles going forward. Former Rangers GM Glen Sather, now senior adviser and alternate governor, will assist Drury through his transition and continue in a consulting role, the team said in a statement. “We want to thank JD and Jeff for their contributions to the organization. They are both great hockey professionals who worked hard for the Rangers, however, in order for the team to succeed in the manner our fans deserve, there needs to be a change in leadership,” Dolan said in the team’s official announcement. “Chris is a very sought-after executive and a strong leader, who has proven himself to be one of the top young minds in hockey. We are confident he will effectively guide the team to ensure the long-term success we promised Rangers fans.” The dismissals were a result of a divergence in philosophies between Dolan and the Davidson-Gorton tandem, with sources indicating that the CEO believes it is time to take the next step in the rebuilding process while the now-former front office execs have continued to preach patience and a longer-view panoramic take on the situation. #NYR #NewYorkRangers The New York Post is your source for breaking news, news about New York, sports, business, entertainment, opinion, real estate, culture, fashion, and more.
