Heat's Adebayo commits to play for USA in Tokyo

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo has committed to join the 12-man Team USA roster for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, his agent, Alex Saratsis, told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, however, has declined an invitation to join Team USA for the Olympics, sources told Wojnarowski. Instead, Mitchell will use the time to recover and rehab from his right ankle injury.

Adebayo, 23, an All-Star in the 2019-20 season, averaged a career best 18.7 points this season for the Heat. The former All-Star also averaged 9.0 rebounds and set a career-best by averaging 5.4 assists.

Last week, sources told Wojnarowski that Phoenix Suns All-Star guard Devin Booker also has committed to play for Team USA and coach Gregg Popovich. The Washington Wizards' Bradley Beal and Portland Trail Blazers' Damian Lillard also reportedly are set to play at the Tokyo Games.

The U.S. is also expecting Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum to be part of the Tokyo-bound roster.

Some top names, such as LeBron James and Jimmy Butler, have already decided not to compete this summer for a variety of reasons.

USA Basketball has been aiming toward filling the 12-man roster for the Olympics by the end of this month. The Americans -- bidding for a fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal -- will convene for training camp in Las Vegas on July 6.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
