In the counterpart cadet girls’ singles competition, Lizaveta Tsimashkova of Belarus, and Belgium’s Lilou Massart were the players to catch the eye.

All excelled in second round matches ousting most worthy names.

Julian Rzihauschek was the player to cause the biggest upset, he accounted for Sweden’s David Bjorkryd, the no.8 seed (11-9, 10-12, 13-15, 11-8, 12-10, 12-10). A six games success for Julian Rzihauschek it was one less for Alan Kulczycki, in five games he beat Turkey’s Ugurcan Dursan, the no.13 seed (11-7, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-5).

Impressive performances, it was the same from Lilou Massart. She overcame Ukraine’s Sofiia Sheredeha, the 15 seed (5-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9), even more imposingly Lizaveta Tsimashkova halted the aspirations of Despoina Ampa of Greece, the no.16 seed (13-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-7).

Casualties but not amongst the top four names.

In the cadet boys’ singles event, Romania’s Iulian Chirita, France’s Felix Lebrun, Poland’s Milosz Redzimski and Spain’s Daniel Berzosa duly advanced to round three.

Likewise, in the cadet girls’ singles competition, it was progress for Anna Hursey of Wales, Germany’s Annett Kaufmann, Veranika Varabyova of Belarus and Ireland’s Sophie Earley.

Similarly, in the cadet boys’ doubles, the most prominent pairs reserved third round places. Iulian Chirita and Romanian colleague Dragos Alexandru Bujor, the top seeds, duly advanced, as did the next in line, the French combination of Felix Lebrun and Flavien Coton.

Not to be upstaged, Daniel Berzosa in partnership with Germany’s Lleyton Ullmann, the no.3 seeds, progressed, their efforts matched by Czech Republic’s Martin Sip and Stepan Brhel, the no.4 seeds.

However, in the cadet girls’ doubles event there was an upset. Veranika Varabyova lining up alongside Belarus compatriot, Ulyana Miashchanskaya, the no.3 seeds, experienced defeat at the hands of Slovakia’s Nina Daravcova and Michaela Bitoova.

Problems for one highly rated pair, not for the other elite combinations. Ann Hursey and Portugal’s Matilde Pinto, the top seeds, progressed; the same situation applying to Annett Kaufmann in partnership with Romania’s Bianca Mei Rose, the no.2 seeds, alongside Sophie Earley and Spain’s Silvia Coll, the no.4 seeds.

Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, the medallists are known.

At the semi-final stage Milosz Redzimski and Polish colleague Wiktoria Wrobel meet Lleyton Ullman and Annett Kaufmann; in the opposite half of the draw, Martin Sip and Ukraine’s Veronika Matiunina face the Belarus combination of Nikon Shutov and Veranika Varabyova.

On Sunday 1st August, the cadet mixed doubles will be played to a conclusion, the semi-finalists in the cadet boys’ doubles and cadet girls’ doubles will have been decided, in addition the names of the cadet boys’ singles and cadet girls’ singles quarter-finalists will be known.
