Ireland's 22-year-old allrounder Curtis Campher has received his first T20I call-up for the five-match series against Zimbabwe due to begin on August 27.
Campher underwent ankle surgery in May and returned to action only last month during the ODIs against South Africa. He is also part of Ireland's ODI squad to take on Zimbabwe soon after the T20Is. In addition to Campher, wicketkeeper Neil Rock returns to the squad after successfully recovering from Covid-19.
"While we have kept faith with the squad that played in the recent South Africa series, we have additionally brought Curtis Campher in for his first call-up for Ireland in the T20 format," Ireland's chief of selectors Andrew White said in a press release. "Curtis is back bowling following his injury, and will add a dynamic batting and bowling presence to the squad. His inclusion will provide Graham Ford and Andrew Balbirnie with increased flexibility as they look to finalise their plans ahead of the World Cup."
William Porterfield recovered from a finger injury sustained during the South Africa series and was back in the ODI squad. There was room for an uncapped player as well with left-arm spinning allrounder Graham Kennedy getting an opportunity.
These will be the last home T20Is before Ireland head to the UAE for the T20 World Cup, and the three ODIs will be part of the World Cup Super League in which Ireland are placed seventh.
The selectors also named a Wolves squad of 11 to be led by Porterfield for the warm-up between the two limited-overs series. Two more players will be added to it after the first two T20Is.
T20I squad: Andrew Balbirnie (capt), Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Shane Getkate, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, William McClintock, Kevin O'Brien, Neil Rock, Simi Singh, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ben White, Craig Young.
ODI squad: Andrew Balbirnie (capt), Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Graham Kennedy, Josh Little, Andy McBrine, Barry McCarthy, William Porterfield, Neil Rock, Simi Singh, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Craig Young.
Wolves squad: William Porterfield (capt), Murray Commins, Stephen Doheny, Matt Ford, Mike Frost, Graham Hume, Graham Kennedy, Jeremy Lawlor, Josh Manley, Neil Rock, Lorcan Tucker (plus two players to be added).
