Kelly van Zon guides Netherlands to final

Facing the Russian Olympic Committee partnership comprising Maliak Alieva and Viktoriia Safonova; in harness with Frederique van Hoof, a doubles success was recorded (12-10, 11-9, 3-11, 11-9).

Viktoriia Safonova, who had lost to Kelly van Zon in the women’s singles class 7 final, overcame Frederique van Hoof (11-7, 10-12, 5-11, 13-11) to level matters; thus setting the stage for Kelly van Zon in opposition to Raisa Chebanika.

Confident, Kelly van Zon duly prevailed (11-4, 11-5, 11-2) to reserve the Netherlands a place in the gold medal contest.

China in the guise of Mao Jingdian and Huang Wenjuan await; at the semi-final stage they accounted for the French combination of Anne Barneoud and Thu Kamkasomphu, a 2-0 victory margin being the result.

The title decider is scheduled for 11.30 am on Thursday 2nd September.

Finalists decided, it was the same in men’s team class 3 and in men’s team class 9-10; in all four matches a 2-0 result being the outcome.

In class 3, Germany’s Thomas Brüchle and Thomas Schmidberger beat the Czech Republic’s Petr Svatos and Jiri Suchanek; soon after China’s Feng Panfeng and Zhai Xiang overcame Thailand’s Yuttajak Glinbanchuen and Anurak Laowong.

Meanwhile, in class 9-10, represented by Lian Hao and Zhao Yi Qing, China accounted for Ukraine’s Lian Hao and Zhao Yi Qing; at the same time Australia’s Ma Lin and Joel Coughlan prevailed against Nigeria’s Tajudeen Agunbiade and Alabi Olufemi.

The gold medal contest for men’s team class 3 will be played on Thursday 2nd September at 6.30 pm; the corresponding men’s team class 9-10 engagement at 11.30 am on Friday 3rd September.
