Carnage, upsets abound, leading names depart

In the men’s singles, the host nation’s Kirill Gerassimenko, Pavel Platonov of Belarus and Saudi Arabia’s Ali Alkhadrawi, the respective top three names, enjoyed success, as did Austria’s Alexander Chen, the no.6 seed.

Seeds Depart

India’s Mudit Dani, the no.4 seed, was beaten by Naif Al-Jadi, like Ali Alkhadrawi from Saudi Arabia, conversely colleague Abdulaziz Bu Shulaybi, the no.7 seed, lost to Russia’s Maksim Kaburkin (11-7, 8-11, 14-12, 11-3, 6-11, 8-11, 11-7).

Similarly, Kazakhstan’s Adios Kenzhigulov, the no.8 seed, experienced defeat at the hands of India’s Sudanshu Grover (8-11, 7-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-2).

The further quarter-final men’s singles place, created by the fact of being only seven seeded players was claimed by India’s Snehit Suravajjula; he caused Kazakhstan further heartaches by overcoming Iskender Kharki (11-5, 11-6, 11-8, 12-10).

Women’s Singles

Meanwhile, in the women’s singles event the two survivors amongst the direct entries to the main draw were Valeria Shcherbatykh, the no.3 seed and India’s Kaushani Nath, the no.8 seed.

Notably, Valeria Shcherbatykh was one four Russian players to book last eight places. Colleagues Ekaterina Okhotnikova, Daria Shadrina and Valeria Kotcyur all upset the order of merit.

Ekaterina Okhotnikova beat Kazakhstan’s Anastassiya Lavriova, the top seed (11-9, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 11-5), Daria Shadrina overcame India’s Selena Selvakumar, the no.4 seed (8-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-7, 6-11, 11-3). Valeria Kotcyur received a walk-over when due to face Mongolia’s Doljinzuu Batbayer, the no.5 seed.

Adding to the upsets, Prapti Sen accounted for Kazakhstan’s Zauresh Akasheva, the no.2 seed (12-10, 6-11, 10-12, 11-4, 11-8, 15-13).

Disappointment for Kazakhstan but there was success, Sarvinoz Mirkadirova halted the aspirations of Uzbekistan’s Mekhrinisio Norkulova, the no.7 seed (4-11, 11-5, 11-8, 17-15, 11-13, 7-11, 11-2).
