Hawks, Huerter reach 4-year, $65M extension

Atlanta Hawks guard Kevin Huerter has agreed to a four-year, $65 million rookie contract extension, his agents, Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of Priority Sports, told ESPN on Monday.

Huerter, 23, is the latest core member of a young Hawks roster to secure a contract extension.

"It was important to our group to secure Kevin as a part of our team moving forward," said Hawks president and general manager Travis Schlenk said in a statement. "He's developed into a versatile, two-way player who can fit any lineup and can play minutes all over the perimeter. We are excited his future is in Atlanta."

The 6-foot-7 Huerter -- who averaged 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in the postseason during the Hawks' run to the Eastern Conference finals -- has shown himself to be a versatile wing player and an ideal backcourt complement to All-Star point guard Trae Young.

Huerter is the fourth Hawks player to sign a new deal to remain with the franchise before the start of the 2021-2022 season, joining Young, forward John Collins and center Clint Capela.

Huerter, who was chosen 19th overall in the 2018 NBA draft, has started 156 of his 200 games in three seasons with the Hawks.
