She partnered Kef Noorani to mixed doubles success, at the final hurdle ousting colleagues Kyler Chen and Tiana Piyadasa (11-8, 15-13, 9-11, 11-6), prior to joining forces with Geetha Krishna, the player she had partnered to team gold, to claim the girls’ doubles top prize.

At the final hurdle the duo overcame colleagues Abigail Yu and Tiana Piyadasa by the very narrowest of margins (8-11, 11-6, 8-11, 12-10, 12-10).

Hard fought success, it was the same for Tashiya Piyadasa in the girls’ singles final; she needed the full five games to beat Ecuador’s Karolayn Maldonado (9-11, 11-3, 11-13, 11-5, 11-4).

Earlier at the semi-final stage Tashiya Piyadasa had beaten Geetha Krishna (11-4, 11-9, 11-9); Karolayn Maldonado had overcome Tiana Piyadasa (13-11, 11-5, 9-11, 13-11).

Similar accolade

Unbeaten throughout, a similar accolade was worthy of being attributed to Emanuel Otalvaro, the under 11 boys’ singles winner.

Relatively early exits in the boys’ doubles partnering Juan Pinero and in the mixed in harness with Gina Guevara but otherwise not a loss against his name, a perfect record in the team event.

At the semi-final stage he beat Kyler Chen (11-4, 11-4, 11-6), before overcoming Brazil’s Frederico Martins to claim gold (11-6, 11-4, 11-7). In the counterpart semi-final, Frederico Martins had also ended the hopes of the United States. He had accounted for Maxim Mouchinski (12-10, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8).

Disappointment for Kyler Chen but there was success; he partnered Kef Noorani to under 11 boys’ doubles gold, the pair overcoming Argentina’s Joseph Ruiz and Diego Suchite (11-6, 11-8, 11-7) in the final.

Colombian success

Success for Colombia in the under 11 boys’ singles, it was the same in the under 13 boys’ singles.

Sebastian Bedoya, after overcoming Brazil’s Davi Fujii (11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8), recovered from a two games to nil deficit to beat Puerto Rico’s Enrique Torres (8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-8) to claim the title.

In the adjacent half of the draw Enrique Torres had prevailed against compatriot Steven Moreno (11-9, 12-10, 10-12, 6-11, 11-8).

Silver for Enrique Torres; however, there was gold. He partnered Valentina Davila to mixed doubles success, the pair overcoming Stanley Hsu and United States colleague, Lin Yishiuan (11-4, 6-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-4) to claim the top prize.

United States gold

Runners up spot for the United States, in the remaining under 13 events it was gold.

Fielding all four semi-finalists, Lin Yishuan beat Aria Shi (11-8, 11-4, 11-2), before overcoming Amber Liu (11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9) to secure the girls’ singles title; Amber Liu having beaten Mandy Yu (11-6, 11-8, 11-3) in the counterpart penultimate round contest.

Meanwhile, Aria Shu and Mandy Yu combined to win the girls’ doubles title accounting for Colombia’s Luciana Cadavid and Mariana Rodriguez in the final (11-9, 13-15, 11-7, 11-7); Krish Gandhi and He Xianyao emerged the boys’ doubles winners, in the title decider they overcame Peru’s Luciano Noriega and Diego Takeda (9-11, 11-6, 11-0, 16-18, 12-10).

Attention now turns to the seven day WTT Youth Contender Cuenca tournament, play commences on Monday 25th October.
