The 15-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, who was at the heart of a doping scandal at the Winter Olympics, returned to Russia on Friday with other Russian athletes.
Short track speed skater Konstantin Ivliev, who won a silver medal, said everyone on the plane tried to support her.
"We spoke kind words to her, because the situation is very hard," he said. "We hope that she moves forward and leaves this situation behind, no matter how hard it is."
Valieva, who has been at the center of a controversy over a positive doping test, finished fourth overall despite placing first in the women's short program earlier in the week.
Afterward her coach, Eteri Tutberidze, was seen on camera berating the visibly upset Valieva.
Tutberidze and other members of Valieva's entourage will be investigated over the teenager's positive test for banned substance ahead of the Olympics.
