At the double, prominent names add to earlier success

A total of ten events on offer, the categories being determined by the sum of the individual classes; the number in question the maximum permitted when the classes of the two players in question are added together.

Notably as the curtain closed it proved a most successful venture for Poland’s Rafal Czuper and Jenson Emburgh of the United States in addition to the British duo of Josh Stacey and Ross Wilson.

All ended the day by following success in the singles events, wih doubles gold, a feat also achieved by Australia’s Lei Li Na and Yang Qian.

Impressive pairs

Winner of men’s singles class 2, Rafal Czuper partnered the Czech Republic’s Jiri Suchanek to men’s doubles class 4 gold. Similarly, Jenson Emburgh, the men’s singles class 3 winner, joined forces with colleague, Ahad Sarand to emerge victorious in men’s doubles class 8.

Notable performance, it was even more notable in men’s doubles class 18; an all British final witnessed success for Joshua Stacey and Ross Wilson succeed in opposition to Aaron McKibbin and Billy Shilton (11-9, 11-6, 11-8).

Earlier, in the men’s singles, Ross Wilson had won class 8, Joshua Stacey, class 9.

Gold secured when alone and in harness, it was the same for Lei Lina and Yang Qian. They prevailed in women’s doubles class 20; one day prior, Lei Lina had claimed the women’s singles class 9 title, Yang Qian had succeeded in class 10.

Two titles

Two titles to end proceedings, it was a similar scenario for Frenchman, Clément Berthier and Turkey’s Irem Oluk.

Partnering colleagues, Clément Berthier joined forces with Esteban Herrault to secure men’s doubles class 14 gold, as well as linking with Morgan Cailland, to enjoy mixed doubles class 14 success.

In a similar vein, likewise with compatriots, Irem Oluk joined forces with Nergiz Altintas to claim the women’s doubles class 10 top prize, before repeating her success in mixed doubles class 10, alongside Suleman Vural.

Poland, Korea Republic, Turkey

Meanwhile, in the remaining mixed doubles events there was success for both Europe and Asia.

Poland’s Piotr Grudzien and Karolina Pek claimed gold in class 17, Korea Republic’s Kim Bogyeon in partnership with Turkey’s Sumeyra Turk in class 22.

Play concluded in Platja d’Aro; attention now turns to Ismailia; the four day ITTF Egypt Para Open, a factor 40 tournament for world ranking, commences on Wednesday 30th March.
