Staged in Ismailia, France in particular attracted the attention, especially the combination of Lucas Didier and Lucie Hautière. In a group organised mixed doubles class 17 event, they finished ahead of Great Britain’s Josh Stacey and Fliss Pickard, the top seeds.

A somewhat unexpected outcome, for colleagues Yorick Adjal and Alan Papirer in men’s doubles class 4, the success was as anticipated; they commenced play the top seeds.

Likewise, in group administered events in the women’s doubles, it was gold for the top seeds, Romania very much to the fore.

Camelia Ciripan and Gabriela Constantin secured the class 14 title, Ioana-Monica Tepelea partnered Hungary’s Alexa Svitacs to gold in class 20.

Titles for top seeded pairs; in events yet to be decided, there was progress for leading pairs.

In the men’s doubles, in class 14 the French partnership of Kevin Dourbecker and Stéphane Messi ended the day unbeaten as in class 18 did Dezso Bereczki and Andras Csonka.

Similarly, in the mixed doubles events, it was a day without blemish for the favourites.

Notably there was success for Egypt. Ahmed Elmashy partnered Jordan’s Fatmeh Azzam to end the day unbeaten in class 7; Hassan Tolba and Faiza Mahmoud kept a clean sheet in class 10.

Meanwhile, it was a day of progress for the partnership formed by Frenchman Clément Berthier and Romania’s Gabriela Constantin in class 14, as it was for Hungary’s Dezso Bereczki and Alexa Svitacs in class 20.

Outcomes as anticipated but there were surprises.

Egypt’s Mohamed Saleh and Raafat Toghian finished in first place in the men’s doubles class 8 group ahead of top seeds, Frenchmen Emeric Martin and Florian Merrien.

Not to be overshadowed, in women’s doubles class 10, Iraq’s Rusul Al-Waeli and Hadeel Al-Waeli completed their group matches ahead of India’s Barina Patel and Ushabahen Rathod, the top seeds.

Play concludes on Saturday 2nd April.
