Rams receiver Nacua ejected for throwing punch
SEATTLE -- Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua was ejected for throwing a punch in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.
After quarterback Matthew Stafford's pass intended for Nacua was intercepted by cornerback Riq Woolen, Nacua got into a scuffle with linebacker Tyrel Dodson. Nacua threw a punch at Dodson and was ejected from the game.
Nacua, who was active Sunday after an injury scare during practice Thursday, had one catch for 11 yards before the ejection. He had played 26 of 30 offensive snaps for the Rams.
Nacua missed five games this season on injured reserve with a knee injury. He returned from IR in Week 8.
The Seahawks scored after the turnover and 15-yard penalty on Nacua to take a 13-3 lead into halftime.
'Lamarvelous' leads Ravens rout with perfect QBR
BALTIMORE -- Practice makes perfect -- except if you're Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Despite practicing just once this past week, Jackson was sharp as he's ever been, recording a perfect 158.3 passer rating in Sunday's 41-10 rout of the Denver Broncos. This marked Jackson's fourth career game with a perfect passer rating, which is tied with Ben Roethlisberger and Peyton Manning for the most in NFL history, according to ESPN Research.
"I feel like it doesn't matter if it's one day or half a day [of practice], he's going to be ready," Ravens running back Derrick Henry said.
Jackson did not practice Wednesday and Thursday because he was resting back and knee injuries. He returned Friday to participate in his only practice of the week.
No one could tell Jackson had limited practice time on Sunday, when he ripped the NFL's No. 3 defense. He completed 16-of-19 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns.
"I just knew what the assignment was," Jackson said. "I definitely studied those guys. Getting with [quarterbacks] Coach Tee [Martin] and just putting in extra work, just because I wasn't out there. [I was] just watching practice and studying film on those guys -- that pretty much helped."
Winners of six of their past seven games, the Ravens (6-3) moved within a half game of the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2) on another efficient performance by Jackson. This was Jackson's sixth career game with as many touchdown passes (three) as incompletions, which matches Peyton Manning and Drew Brees for the most in NFL history.
"It's like your ideal point guard in a basketball situation -- somebody that sees people, sees their strengths, sees ways to get them won," Ravens wide receiver Nelson Agholor said. "He's a special player and I think we all know that. He approaches the game a certain way to be the best version of him every time he steps on the field."
This was the first time Jackson had missed any practice time in the regular season this year. When asked after the game if Jackson would get as many rest days as he wanted going forward, Ravens coach John Harbaugh smiled.
Harbaugh said he could tell how sharp Jackson was early in the game. Jackson completed his first four passes and finished the first half by connecting on 11 of his first 12 throws, including two touchdown passes to Zay Flowers of seven and 53 yards.
"I believe I mentioned it to one of the guys on the [headset] after the second or third series, 'Lamar is one fire. He's on fire throwing the ball,'" Harbaugh said.
Jackson didn't seem at full strength when scrambling, running for four yards on three carries. It was his fewest rushing attempts since December 2022, when he left a game against the Broncos in the first quarter with what became a season-ending knee injury.
Jackson's big plays all came with his arm. He was 5-of-5 for 157 yards and a touchdown on throws that traveled at least 20 yards in the air, which are the most such completions in his career.
"He's dangerous with his arm, and I think he showed that," Henry said. "If you want to take away him running the ball, [he'll] go over your head and throw it. If he has to run it, he'll do that as well. Hats off to him. He's an engine that makes this thing go -- 'MV3.'"
With a strong supporting cast, Jackson led the Ravens to seven straight scoring drives as Baltimore put up 40 or more points for the third time in five weeks. On the ground, Henry ran for 106 yards and scored two touchdowns, becoming the 10th player in NFL history to reach 100 career rushing touchdowns. In the passing attack, Flowers became the first Ravens player to total 100 yards receiving and two touchdown catches in the same game since Marquise Brown in 2019.
Now, midway through the season, Jackson is back to being the favorite for NFL MVP. According to ESPN BET, Jackson's odds improved to +225, which moves him past Josh Allen (+360).
Flowers summed up Jackson's performance with a one-word response: "Lamarvelous."
Bucks forward Portis says home was burglarized
Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis said his home was burglarized and his possessions were stolen during Saturday night's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Portis shared the news on his social media accounts Sunday afternoon, posting a surveillance video of his front door and asking fans to send him any tips or information.
"This is a place I've considered home," Portis said. "While I was at my game yesterday, I had a home invasion, and they took most of my prized possessions."
Portis believes this was a targeted robbery, sources told ESPN, because it happened right at the start of Saturday's game, and he has filed a police report.
Portis, 27, is playing in his fifth season in Milwaukee.
Sources: George set to make 76ers debut Monday
Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George is expected to make his season debut Monday against the Phoenix Suns, barring any setbacks, sources told ESPN on Sunday.
George, a nine-time NBA All-Star, suffered a bone bruise in his left knee on Oct. 14 in Atlanta. He participated in a five-on-five scrimmage Friday and went through practice Sunday in Phoenix.
The 76ers start a three-game West Coast road trip Monday night in Phoenix, before visiting the Clippers on Wednesday in George's return to Los Angeles.
The trip concludes Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers.
NEW YORK -- Lou Trivino's $5 million club option was declined Sunday by the New York Yankees, making the right-hander a free agent after he missed his second straight big league season following an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery.
Trivino was acquired from Oakland on Aug. 1, 2022, along with right-hander Frankie Montas for left-handers J.P. Sears and Ken Waldichuk, right-hander Luis Medina and infielder Cooper Bowman.
Trivino had a 1.66 ERA in 25 relief appearances for the Yankees plus four more in the postseason in 2022. He made one spring training appearance the following March 2, went on the injured list with a strained right elbow and had Tommy John surgery that May 3 with Los Angeles Dodgers head team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
After becoming a free agent last fall, Trivino agreed in February to a $1.5 million deal with the Yankees that included the team option.
He made his minor league season debut on Aug. 14 and had a 4.91 ERA in 11 appearances for Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, striking out 11 and walking six in 11 innings. His four-seam fastball averaged 94.2 mph at Triple-A.
England have called-up Sale Sharks prop Asher Opoku-Fordjour to the 36-player squad preparing to face Australia in the Autumn Nations Series.
The 20-year-old was a member of England's Under-20s side which won their age grade World Cup this year.
Opoku-Fordjour replaces Joe Marler, who has announced his retirement from international rugby, while Bath lock Charlie Ewels replaces club team-mate Ted Hill.
Harlequins prop Marler, 34, called time on his England career after winning 95 caps, while head coach Steve Borthwick previously said his side needs more depth at prop.
England began their autumn schedule with a narrow 24-22 defeat by New Zealand at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.
They resume their campaign against the Wallabies on 9 November and lock Maro Itoje said the hosts are closing in on a statement win after a run of narrow defeats.
England have lost three consecutive Tests against the All Blacks after leading in the final quarter on each occasion.
"We will get there," said Saracens lock Itoje. "We have to lick our wounds and take our medicine at the moment, but this team is building in a positive direction.
"I have been part of a few teams and you get a sense of when a team is moving in the right direction.
"I think we are growing in the right areas of the game, we are aggressive in attack and there is a general feel of confidence and vibe among the players.
"We have had some agonising losses, but this is a different team to what it was 18 months ago with the way we play, the endeavour we show.
"Sometimes in the past when we lost, they were clear losses and we were clutching at straws. I don't feel we are clutching at straws now. We lost, but we're close."
The Colorado Avalanche activated forward Artturi Lehkonen from injured reserve Sunday.
Lehkonen had been sidelined since undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer.
Lehkonen, 29, recorded 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 11 playoff games in the spring after recording 34 points (16 goals, 18 assists) in 45 games during the regular season.
The Finland native has collected 243 points (117 goals, 126 assists) in 521 games with the Montreal Canadiens and Avalanche. The Canadiens drafted him in the second round in 2013 and he won the Stanley Cup with Colorado in 2022.
Also Sunday, the Avalanche assigned rookie forward Ivan Ivan to the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League.
Ivan, 22, had four points (two goals, two assists) in 12 games with the Avalanche this season.
Moisés Caicedo's blistering second-half strike cancelled out a penalty from Bruno Fernandes as Chelsea salvaged a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, spoiling United's celebrations in their first Premier League game since the sacking of manager Erik ten Hag.
Chelsea are fourth in the table on 18 points while United, who had interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy in the dugout, are 13th on 12 points after 10 games.
United's captain Fernandes scored from the spot in the 70th minute after Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez caught Rasmus Højlund's foot when diving for the ball. Fernandes sent Sanchez the wrong way, prompting a delighted Van Nistelrooy to leap in the air in celebration.
But the mood in Old Trafford swiftly shifted four minutes later when Casemiro failed to fully clear Chelsea's corner, leaving Caicedo to fire a low volley that André Onana managed to just get a hand on, though he could not stop it sailing into the bottom corner.
"It was the chance to score a goal. I did it. I'm so happy," Caicedo told BBC Sport.
"We knew if we waited for a long time [to equalise] it was going to be complicated. I'm so happy to equalise.
"We deserved to win. We knew it would be a tough game but we were prepared for it. I'm so happy for the team. It was a great fight."
Ten Hag was sacked on Monday with United languishing in 14th in the Premier League. Ruben Amorim was named as his replacement on Friday and will arrive at the club on Nov. 11.
A common refrain from Ten Hag was United's inability to score goals -- only Crystal Palace and Southampton have fewer than United's nine -- and it was more of the same on Sunday.
Alejandro Garnacho nearly broke the deadlock in added time, firing a long shot that glanced just over the crossbar before Fernandes missed a sitter seconds later, lashing a shot from the centre of the box well over the net.
Right before the final whistle, Garnacho worked the ball down the left before sending a cross to Joshua Zirkzee, whose shot deflected off a Chelsea defender and over the net, to groans from the Old Trafford crowd.
Both sides hit the woodwork in a back-and-forth first half of a game that will not go down as a classic. Chelsea's Noni Madueke headed into the post from close range from Cole Palmer's corner early in the game.
Marcus Rashford nearly scored in style in the last action before the halftime whistle when Fernandes chipped the ball over Chelsea defender Reece James but Rashford's side-footed volley bounced off the crossbar.
There were some heated minutes of pushing and shoving after United defender Lisandro Martínez caught Palmer's foot, although a VAR check decided it did not merit a red card.
Bruno Fernandes has revealed he called Erik ten Hag to apologise after the Dutchman was sacked by Manchester United.
Fernandes scored a penalty as United drew 1-1 with Chelsea in their first Premier League game since Ten Hag's dismissal on Monday.
The midfielder said he has spoken to his former boss following the decision and admitted the players must take their share of responsibility for Ten Hag's departure.
"Whenever you see a manager go you have to take some of the blame on yourself, it is because the team is not doing so well," Fernandes told Sky.
"It is easier to get rid of a manager than 15 players. I spoke to the manager [Ten Hag] and apologised to him, I was disappointed he has gone and I tried to help him. I wasn't scoring goals, we are not scoring goals and I feel responsible.
"It is not good for anyone at the club when the manager goes. The team is not the best, the results are not the best and he is the one who pays for it."
Following Ten Hag's departure, United have beaten Leicester in the Carabao Cup and drawn with Chelsea in the Premier League under caretaker boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
He has another two games in charge before Rúben Amorim takes the reins on Nov. 11.
Van Nistelrooy admitted it's been a "difficult" week at the club and said the players have had to "look in the mirror" after a poor start to the season.
"It has been very difficult from last Monday to today, six days, a rollercoaster of emotions," Van Nistelrooy said. "It's very sad seeing Erik leave.
"The next day you have to start to focus on getting the lads ready for Leicester because 75,000 people show up here at Old Trafford and the players feel they have an obligation to do better.
"They look in the mirror and their reactions then and today show they think about things."
Van Nistelrooy's long-term future remains up in the air after Amorim stated his intention to bring his own coaching staff to Old Trafford.
The 48-year-old will lead the team against POAK in the Europa League on Thursday and against Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday but is still waiting to learn whether he will stay beyond the November international break.
"I am open for the future," he said. "We all will be backing him [Amorim] and helping him to get Man United where we want them to be.
"I look forward to get to know him better. He has done very well in Portugal. He's a young, talented coach and he's done very well in Portugal."
Olmo nets two, 'wants more' in return to Barca XI
Dani Olmo said he wants "more" after scoring a brace in his first start since September as Barcelona beat Espanyol 3-1 in Sunday's Catalan derby at the Olympic Stadium.
Raphinha was also on target as Barça moved nine points clear at the top of the league after 11 games. Espanyol scored a late consolation through Javi Puado.
"I feel good," Olmo, who recently returned from a month-long injury layoff, told reporters. "I was really looking forward to returning and being able to help the team on the pitch. I'm back, enjoying it, playing, winning ... and I want more."
Olmo, a 60 million summer signing from RB Leipzig, now has five goals in five league appearances -- only three of which have been as a starter -- and is averaging 1.67 goals per 90 minutes in LaLiga.
The Spain international's return adds another dimension to an attack that was already finding the net regularly.
In total, Barça have now scored 40 goals in the league this season and are the only team in Europe's top five leagues to have four players on at least five goals: Robert Lewandowski (14), Raphinha (7), Lamine Yamal (5) and Olmo (5).
"We are a team with a lot of goals in it," Olmo added. "Both the forwards and the midfielders that get forward can contribute in that regard. We can play direct and we create a lot of chances."
Both Olmo's goals arrived in the first half, the first via a brilliant Yamal assist and the second from the edge of the box, with Barça coach Hansi Flick praising his goal scoring ability.
"He knows how to score goals, this was for us very important today," Flick said in his post-game news conference. "We are very happy Dani is back. Maybe he is not 100% still, but he's back and was able to start. This is also why we won this match."
Barça have now won six games in a row in all competitions, scoring at least three times on each occasion, but they lost control of the match in the second half against Espanyol.
Flick said he was happy to win his first Catalan derby in charge of the club but that the players will have to improve for the midweek Champions League game against Red Star Belgrade.
"I'm not happy of course for the second half, but I say to the team sometimes it happens," Flick added. "We lost the concentration, the tension. We made a lot of unforced errors. But it happens sometimes. Until now, the team made a good season with unbelievable performances.
"Also the first half [we were good], but not in the second half today. I accept that because we won, but on Wednesday we need another level."
The game began with a minute's silence for the more than 200 people who have lost their lives in the flooding in the east of Spain this week, which led to Valencia and Villarreal's fixtures against Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano, respectively, being postponed.
Injured Barça forward Ferran Torres is from the Valencia region -- the are worst affected -- and revealed in an Instagram post he did not go to Sunday's derby because he did not have the energy to attend after a difficult week.
"I totally understand that," Flick said. "It was normal, when [Torres] asked this, I said OK, of course. In this moment, there are much more important things than football and he chose that. It's normal."
Olmo added: "Maybe the games shouldn't have been played [this weekend]. I am sending all my support to those affected by [the floods] and encourage people to collaborate and help however they can."
