Briton finishes 10th in Denmark while English junior women take European bronze in Italy plus full results from Diamond League final

Copenhagen Half-Marathon, Denmark, September 17

Ed Cheserek narrowly beat Bernard Koech as Kenyans took five of the first six places in the mens race.

The winner, a multiple NCAA champion indoor, outdoor and on the country, took a minute off of his PB as he utilised his 3:49.44 indoor mile form a time that still stands as the Kenyan record to defeat Hamburg Marathon winner Koech.

The leaders had passed 10km in 28:02 and ran the second 10km in 28:07 as third to sixth places also broke the hour.

The leading European was Britains 2:08:07 marathoner Emile Cairess.

He was with the leaders at 5km in 14:04 but was back in 22nd in 28:35 at 10km and, with that second 14:31 5km split, he fairly much held that pace to the end with further 5km splits of 14:30 and 14:39 but he did move through the field to finish 10th.

The time was 20 seconds down on his PB from Valencia last year.

Irine Cheptai, the 2022 world 10,000m sixth-placer, who was involved in that momentous battle with Eilish McColgan in the Commonwealth 10,000m last year, had an easy womens victory in a PB 65:53 as Winfridah Moseti (66:40) and  Jessica Chelangat (67:03) ensured a Kenyan clean sweep.

Cheptai was third at 5km (15:13), second at 10km in 30:48 but well clear by 20km in 62:14 even though she slowed significantly to 16:03 for that fourth 5km section.

Karoline Grovdal was the top European in sixth in 67:34 while Lily Partridge was close to her PB with 70:36 in 18th.

The multiple English National cross-country champion put together 10km splits of 33:05 and 33:37.

Mhairi MacLennan (71:18) and Philippa Bowden (72:39) both set PBs.
