CONCORD, N.C. From Volusia Speedway Park in February to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in November, the 2024 Super DIRTcar Series had many twists and turns, culminating in Mat Williamsons second series championship.

Those twists and turns created many thrilling moments throughout out 2024, ones that wont be forgotten as the series prepares for 2025.

Heres a look back at the thrilling moments of the 2024 season:

MULTI-TIME CHAMP

With his second Super DIRTcar Series title, Williamson made history in 2024, becoming the eighth multi-time champion.

Along with his championship, he had more wins than any other driver in 2024.

After scoring a win during Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals in February, the St. Catharines, Ont. driver backed it up with his third Heroes Remembered 100 win at Weedsport Speedway in May. Money Mat added two wins each at Land of Legends Raceway and Albany-Saratoga Speedway, along with a victory at Ransomville Speedway, Can-Am Speedway, and Charlotte to complete his nine-win season.

With those nine wins, he moved into a tie for ninth with Jack Johnson on the Series all-time wins list with 31 victories.

Williamsons second title is also the second for Buzz Chew Racing after the driver-owner combination first accomplished that feat in 2019.

TYING THE JET 

For 13 years, Brett Hearn sat alone in Super DIRT Week lore with six Billy Whittaker Cars 200 victories.

With the event being run on Saturday night under the lights for the first time, Stewart Friesen created his own historic moment by leading all 200 laps to win his sixth Big Block Modified Feature at Super DIRT Week, tying The Jet for the most all-time.

It was the Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. drivers second Oswego victory and first since the inaugural running on the five-eighths-mile dirt oval in 2018. 

BOOKENDING 2024

Anthony Perrego delivered a multi-win season with the Super DIRTcar Series for the second time in his career. But this time, it bookended the 2024 championship season.

The Montgomery, N.Y. driver stole the opening round of the 2024 championship season away from Darren Smith in the closing laps at New Egypt Speedway in March before outdueling Tim Fuller for the victory in the season finale at the World of Outlaws World Finals.

Those two wins propelled him to third in the final series standings his best finish in three seasons on tour.

Perrego ends the season tied for 37th overall on the all-time wins list with five career triumphs.

FORTUNE 500 

While Matt Sheppard fell short of his 11th title in 2024, he reached victory lane three times throughout the season, including a significant milestone in his career.

His win on the seasons opening night at Volusia was his 500th overall career Feature win, 25 years after earning his first win at Land of Legends in 1999.

The Waterloo, NY driver added another win at Volusia before earning a $10,000 victory in the King of the North finale at Autodrome Drummond in July.

Super Matt finished second in the overall standings and will search for his 11th Series title in 2025.

JOINING THE LIST

Two drivers earned their place on the Series all-time wins list in 2024 by winning their first Super DIRTcar Series feature.

Michael Parent was the first driver to score his first Series win after inheriting the lead from Justin Stone and holding on to win the opening night of King of the North at Drummond. It was also a history-making night for the Granby, Q.C. driver, who became the first French-Canadian driver to win a Super DIRTcar Series race at the track since Steve Poirer in 2002.

Canada was also the site of the second first-time winner in 2024, as Rookie of the Year Alex Payne etched his name into the history books at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The Hopewell, N.Y. driver held off a late charge from Sheppard to win the Canadian Classic in September, earning $7,500 for his efforts.

In his first season with the Super DIRTcar Series, Payne finished seventh in the final standings with five top fives and nine top 10s.

AWARD WINNING SEASONS

Along with Paynes Rookie of the Year award, two other drivers earned awards at the year-end banquet for the second consecutive year.

Felix Roy, the 2023 Rookie of the Year, earned the Fan Favorite award, voted by the fans for the second straight season. He also earned the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series title for the first time.

Sheppard, meanwhile, won the Social Media award in back-to-back seasons for constantly promoting Super DIRTcar Series races and DIRTVision.
