CONCORD, N.C. – Alex Bowman has taken himself out of the free agent market by signing a contract extension to remain with Hendrick Motorsports in 2021.
The two-time NASCAR Cup Series race winner announced the extension in a Twitter post on Saturday morning.
Pumped to lock down the contract extension for 2021! Couldn’t be more excited to return to @TeamHendrick next season and keep the good times rolling in the 88! Thanks for all the support, can’t wait to get to Darlington tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/b1YNHViR5n

Bowman made his Hendrick Motorsports debut in 2016 when he was tabbed to drive the No. 88 Chevrolet while Dale Earnhardt Jr. recovered from a concussion. He made 10 starts for the team that year and turned heads with an impressive performance at Phoenix Raceway that saw him qualify on the pole, lead the most laps and finish sixth.
When Earnhardt announced the 2017 season would be his last full-time season in NASCAR, Bowman was later selected by team owner Rick Hendrick to replace him in 2018.
Since taking over the No. 88 entry full-time Bowman has earned two victories, including one earlier this year at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. He currently sits fourth in the NASCAR Cup Series standings heading into Sunday’s race at Darlington Raceway.
