CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Atomic Speedway track promoter Brad McCown will add to the already tradition-rich Dan Reno Memorial event at the three-eighths-mile clay oval next year on Mother’s Day weekend.

The 13th edition of the event will serve as a tribute to both the late Dan Reno and the late Jackie Boggs on May 7-8.

The super late model portion of the program on May 7 will pay the winner $5,000 to win, while the winner of the super late model portion of the program on May 8 will take home a $13,004 top prize.

Both events will be sanctioned by the Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series Northern Tour presented by DirtonDirt.com, under the direction of series promoter Chris Tilley.

The May 7 portion of the Dan Reno Memorial/Jackie Boggs Memorial weekend will see the Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series Northern Tour presented by DirtonDirt.com racing for $5,000 to win, along with the track’s open-wheel modifieds paying $1,500 to win and Sport Mods paying $1,000 to win.

On May 8, the Dan Reno Memorial/Jackie Boggs Memorial weekend will conclude with the Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series Northern Tour presented by DirtonDirt.com racing for $13,004 to win, along with the track’s open-wheel modifieds racing for $2,204 to win and Sport Mods racing for $2,222 to win.

Dan’s brother, Darrel Reno, promotes his brother’s race. Jackie Boggs had a very close friendship that was developed through racing, and Boggs was also Dan Reno’s favorite driver.

Reno would race an open-wheel modified and street stock at several tracks in southern Ohio from 2004 up until the time of his untimely passing from an ATV accident on Aug. 2, 2009.

Atomic Speedway began honoring the late Reno with a memorial race late in the 2009 racing season, with Boggs having been a previous winner of the event.

At the time of Boggs’ unexpected passing on Oct. 24, 2020, Boggs was the winningest driver in the history of the Iron-Man Late Model Series, along with being tied for the most heat race victories in tour history and second in tour history on the fast qualifiers list.

Boggs, a second-generation racer well-known around the country for his hard-charger driving style and humble and wonderful supporter of all friends and family off the track, had a driving career of more than 30 years in length, with wins in the Northeast, Midwest, and Southern portions of the United States.

Some of Boggs’ wins in his career came with the STARS tour, where he had four wins and finished third in the 2001 STARS point standings. He also boasted 11 MACS tour wins, one STARS MDRL win, three Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victories, three World of Outlaws Late Model Series wins, one Ultimate Series win, one UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series victory, and multiple victories in the CT Promotions-sanctioned Iron-Man Classic.

Along with his nine Iron-Man Series victories, Boggs won the final three events of the Iron-Man Racing Series’ 2017 tour at 201 Speedway, Lake Cumberland Speedway, and 411 Motor Speedway.

Boggs’ highest finish in Iron-Man Late Model Series points was a third place in the tour’s inaugural season in 2016.

R.J. Conley of Wheelersburg, Ohio, won the most recent edition of the Dan Reno Memorial this year over Jared Hawkins, Dave Hornikel, Brandon Francis, and Todd Brennan.
