BRASELTON, Ga. – Team TGM will return to full-time competition in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, beginning at Daytona Int’l Speedway, Jan. 28-31.

The team will seek a repeat of its 2018 Pilot Challenge championship in the Grand Sport (GS) category.

Announced in July, Team TGM principal Ted Giovanis made the difficult decision to discontinue IMSA competition for the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team temporarily stepped away from racing, while ongoing involvement in research and potential vaccines for the virus have continued through the team’s association with the Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis Foundation.

While the team continues to support the outstanding research and contributions of JKTGF, Giovanis feels the time is right to resume the full efforts of the race team in IMSA competition.

“We’re returning to professional competition very enthusiastic about the 2021 season, our relationship with Chevrolet and having used the time away to better understand the Camaro GT4.R race cars,” said Giovanis. “I’ve been impressed with the procedures and safeguards that IMSA has put into place at events and their commitment to a healthy and successful return to motorsport competition.

“The entire Team TGM organization is more than ready to return to the track. We’re looking forward to a run for another IMSA championship in 2021.”

After making the switch to Chevy Camaros for 2020, the team will resume its relationship with Chevrolet and compete in 2021 with the Chevy Camaro GT4.R.

The two-car team will return with No. 64 driven by Giovanis and Owen Trinkler, and the No. 46 driven by Hugh Plumb and Matt Plumb. Having won the driver (Owen Trinkler and Hugh Plumb) and team championships in 2018, the team is poised for another run toward the top.

“I’m excited to be teamed with Ted in the No.64 Chevy Camaro for 2021. Our goals for the new year are a repeat of the success of the 2018 season and we know that is all about getting consistent finishes and earning points every race,” noted Trinkler. “Ted has been racing and winning in other series and getting lots of track time this year. We are confident that we can contend for podium finishes every race.

Team TGM will participate in the 2021 Roar Before The 24 at Daytona, Jan. 22-24, followed by the kick-off to the race season, also in Daytona, the following weekend.
