Shoe guru Paul Freary tests out the versatile Neo running footwear
Featuring their latest midsole cushioning material, ENERZY, the Neo is the lightest member of Mizuno’s Wave Rider family ever made.
The full-length cushioning provides 17% more shock absorption and 15% more energy return than the previous midsole foam and, as well as offering a faster and smoother ride, it should prove more durable.
The Wave plate is still embedded in the midsole, which helps create a stable platform for the new foam, as well as providing an additional level of cushioning by spreading the impact forces. It’s this stability that helps give this model a wider audience.
Runners who have found other new-age foam shoes too soft or unstable should be more than happy in the Neo.
The fully seamless bootie upper construction looks a little strange at first but it hugs you beautifully, while internal support straps hold the midfoot in place. The Neo is a versatile model and would perhaps even make a good race day option for the heavier runner.
