Starks & Gobrecht Motorsports Going Different Directions

PUYALLUP, Wash. – Trey Starks and Gobrecht Motorsports have elected to mutually go in different directions following a successful campaign.

The news comes as Gobrecht Motorsports partner Jeff McCall prepares to hit the road with Pennsylvania driver Kyle Reinhardt next year, as first reported by Sprint Car Unlimited.

“I have a really good relationship with Jeff McCall and Scott Gobrecht,” Starks said. “They were very good to me and gave me a great opportunity. It was really fun. I’d been talking about not being able to race as much because I need more time at home to work. We’re ending on good terms and I believe I’ll drive for Jeff sometime in the future.”

The Washington native first teamed up with McCall in 2015. Gobrecht was a sponsor of McCall’s team prior to the parties merging into Gobrecht Motorsports at the end of 2016.

The last few years have yielded many stout moments, including back-to-back top-10 finishes in the championship standings at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, as well as the Rookie of the Year Award at ‘The Sprint Car Capital of the World.’

The partnership also included a Knoxville Nationals preliminary night victory as well as multiple wins during Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions, Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek and United Sprint Car Series national races.

“The last couple of years I was trying to do two things and it was messing with both of them so I’m planning on settling down for a year,” Starks said. “I’m not actively seeking a full-time gig. I have plenty of stuff going on with work. With that being said, I’m open to a short schedule or if someone wants to do something for a weekend here or there.

“I am still open to options for part-time racing.”

Starks noted he will likely fill in his schedule of open weekends next year with races in the Northwest unless a better opportunity to race part time arrives.

“I could see us running our car here and there, but definitely not every weekend,” he said. “Maybe some bigger races around home.”
